Oil in Water or Water in Oil Emulsion can be easily achieved in a compact system if it is properly designed. Here there are two key design aspects. One when the phases are brought in contact and second when the drop size has to be reduced so that the expected emulsion stability is achieved.
Emulsification may be affected in two ways by using smartly designed Static Mixers (in some case even the use of Cavitational Flow Fields), or with the help of proper High Shear/Speed Impellers.
Emulsification System is designed with the combination of these Mixers; one of them may be used as a Distributor, and one may be for making droplets still smaller (this is often called Refiner).
Depending upon the physical properties of the phases and functionality of the Emulsifier, a system shall be designed.
